Oak Hill Alpaca Ranch began as Oakhill Farm in 1999 in Middleton, Massachusetts. A few ducks and chickens, aquired in 1994, soon led to the purchase of our first Babydoll Sheep. We soon started to breed Olde English Southdown Miniature Baby Doll Sheep, some of the smallest and rarest sheep in the world.
In 1999 that we attended the New England Alpaca Show and fell in love with Alpacas. We read books about alpacas, attended seminars and visited farms at every opportunity. We realized that our small farm in Middleton was not large enough o support the Babydoll sheep and Alpacas, so we sold our Baby dolls to some caring hands and started to focus on Alpacas. Our search for a larger property began in 2000 and we soon discovered a beautiful parcel with 76 acres in Shapleigh, Maine and purchased it in February 2001. By December of 2001, we were building our new home and barn. The new D7 Caterpillar bulldozer became our best friend and we began to clear the land for pasture. By June of 2002 we finally moved into Oak Hill Alpaca Ranch!
The alpacas have made a wonderful lifestyle for us. Alpacas are safe, they do not bite, and they are small and easy for children to handle. We truly DO love alpacas!
Today, we have a growing herd, and two Livestock Protection Dogs named Burak and Poppy. They are proudly pictured to the left.
We are blessed to see Oak Hill Alpacas grow into a true family affair with Bob and Joyce Ferrera and Bruce and Carol Skinner helping us.
Also, our own family dog named Rex and our son pictured to the left.
It has been very rewarding to watch people feel their beautiful fiber products for the first time. Most people have never felt the luxurious fiber of an Alpaca. We hope to change that!
